What up!
We have spent the past while jumping so many countries chasing after our music. Its mental because it’s doing so well around the world and when you arrive there your already well known.. Shocking really!
On our way back from Japan we had a 2-hour lay over in London before we head straight to Monaco for the World music Awards. We got told we are playing one song and up for a nomination. "Best Selling Irish Artists 2008" The irony of it because only a short while before were sitting in my Shed in Jambo thinking will our music even get played on local Dublin Radio?. Nuts.. The whole experience is very surreal.. we arrive and do the red carpet thing, which i have to say is a pain in the B!@£$%^&X! 60/70 paps shouting your name and snapping pics, while by the way, Glen and I are paranoid central over the ned kellies.. I whisper in Glen’s ear while in that moment, "If i don't have a 6 pack by now after sucking it in the whole time ill be a monkeys uncle". after that madness your eyes end up with light spots in-front of them while you walk into the venue..yes walk INTO the venue. It got so heavy on us that I ended up shouting at the Paps.. "F!@£$%K off you have your pictures"... "ye can take the boy out of Dublin...."
So here we are sat at this table watching Beyonce open the show (she was very very good) and there's Akon to my right and Kid Rock behind me and were trying our best to be good at this classy event and not let the side down.. till at least after the party anyway. Then we get dragged off for our performance, "You’re on lads right after Mariah" What?? after her? lanturdn jaysis boyits.. So were sitting backstage about to go on and there's Beyonce, Alicia Keys and Mariah Carey all just having a casual chat.. with loads of cronies orbiting around them, fixing hairs.. i do mean hairs.. one or 2 not a whole head of them. all you can do is laugh people really. The Diva is still alive and kickin'! I think all the crew are so scared of losing their jobs that they just have to look busy too scared to chillax. gas stuff altogether. but anyway along comes some dude over which Mariah sends over to me and he says, " Mark? Mariah sent me over to tell you that she was listening to your music on the way in today and she wanted me to tell you she loves it", I was like," Why the F@%&K doesn't she tell me herself?, she's right there, 5 feet away!!!" the lads where kicking me laughing..lol Anyway it was a nice gesture all the same
Then the moment of truth arrives, all we know is we’re playing one song at this yolk but right as were dealing with the nerves of walking on stage a producer pulls us aside and tells us, "oh by the way, you just won Best selling Irish artists so when you’re done playing skip off to the right there and collect it" just like that! no speech prepared nothing.. it was really the last thing on our minds, in our heads were not winning that Award anyway why prepare one? especially with all the huge Irish artists out there, not a chance. but sure enough we did. Absolutely NUTS! you just dont dream dreams like this. but thats just what it felt like. standing there accepting an award infront of millions... (which brings me to my cunning plan... were thinking of carrying a live hidden Camera next time to these events so we can have the craic while the public think were serious, ive done one or 2 already ill have to post them soon... funny shit!)
The whole night went off really well and of course we held our own at the After party.. as a good night usually does wreck your brain and the next day it all comes back to you like a slide show, my last image of the night was Danny holding a very Large, i mean at least 4 foot tall, bottle of Champagne (no it wasn't his, he picked it off some rich f@$Ks table without him knowing) and he was standing high on a chair filling glasses all over the shop... I even vaguely remember seeing some celebs laying on the table mouth ahoy while Dan poured it down the hatch! funny shit all round.
You cant take the Dublin out of the boyits!
Its on RTE this Sunday so have a gander!
